observing and interpreting the earth’s cycles is a survival practice across many cultures, but in our current era of long work hours and social isolation, these skills are at risk. it is crucial that we rekindle these skills to help us respond to the social and environmental challenges we are now facing.
earth cycles is a year-long series of exhibitions and programs examining the cycles that sustain life on the planet: carbon, water, rock, and plant. the project will consist of 4 exhibitions that feature artists megha jairaj, cassandra marketos, d’angelo christian, kyle hokana kootswatewa, síta valrún, pearl c. hsiung, lucia fabio, and carolina caycedo, each of whom will create new work responding to one of the cycles through a range of media, including video, sculpture, photography, drawing, earthen vessels, and living installation. earth cycles is co-curated by gloria galvez and liz goetz and is supported by the mike kelley foundation for the arts and the city of los angeles department of cultural affairs.
